Chapter 298 - Witch Doctoring

Last time I reported she again had bursitis like pains in her left hip. After the initial application of Tiger Balm oil and the vibrator she mentioned nothing about more of that pain for a couple of days and then I applied the vibrator, without oil, around the knobbly area of her left hip as well as her left calf muscle. By the next day she began to scratch an itchiness on her left hip and calf and I warned her not to do so because her skin would break. She applied anti-itch cream. That night going to bed she was rubbing her left leg with some towelling to ease the itch after applying more cream. Her leg began to develop redness and spots. She decided to wrap her leg in a strip bandage which eased the itching. Now at week's end she finds that if she doesn't touch her left calf then she is not bothered by itching, although her slacks tend to be a bother. The leg is not red but there are numerous blotches where the skin has broken. I can only assume the traces of Tiger Balm Oil on the rollers of the vibrator initiated an allergic reaction; perhaps a liberal quantity of oil the next time she experiences that hip pain may be OK, whether she will wish to risk finding out is another matter.

One morning, standing quickly in getting out of bed, she experienced sharp pains up both legs, forcing her to sit quickly in her bedroom chair; she cried.

During the week a friend sent me an anecdotal report about the benefits of coconut oil for Alzheimer's patients; perhaps also for PWP's. I politely rubbished the idea. Then yesterday one of the Parky forums carried a post by a PWP who says he experienced "benefits" within a few days after working up to 4 tablespoons at breakfast, 2 at lunch and 4 at dinner. I found that one of our town's supermarkets sold the stuff, so with her agreement, down the street I went this morning to buy a 300gm bottle for $6. We both tried it for lunch, I in soup, she straight off the spoon. Has the look of candle wax but not having tasted candle wax I found the taste quite neutral. A $6 bottle won't last long so I suspect this experiment will be short lived.

Her next dental appointment was due next Tuesday. She fears ascending the stairs via two chair lifts "while she remains so shaky" so she rang and cancelled. I was unable to talk her out of it.

My efforts encouraging her to drink more water has not been entirely successful; maybe a litre a day over her normal food intake. When I fill up her 750ml bottles I squirt a little bottled lemon juice into each.

I emailed the PD group in Hot Air City hoping to arrange a meeting between her and one of their members who is using apomorphine  before she sees the Helpful Neurologist again. I am puzzled, that if this medication is so helpful for long term PWP's, why there is not more discussion about it around the groups.
