Chapter 170 - A Brief Holiday Escape from Retirement

Two weeks ago on a Wednesday we pulled the van to our favourite little Superb Parrot town, staying a week. Hard to imagine perhaps, yet we filled the hours reading, day trips to the town that has her preferred clothing shop and also Cherry Town. Sometimes sunny, raining and cold.

A mishap while parking the van. She wished to guide me (I was doing a woeful job of it) and fell on the slippery wet grass behind the van where I was unable to see her. Fortunately she called on the CB. Bruised her left knee & elbow, grass stains on her jeans. In attempting to help her stand (she is quite unable to raise herself once on the ground) I crushed my glasses (hanging on a cord around my neck) and broke the frame. One of the lenses was almost lost in the grass. There was tenderness in her leg for about a week. Always the left leg is injured.

The van required no chocks to make it level and only once did she query whether there was a gradient front to back. Although we took her collapsible commode chair, she was able to cope with the confines of the van toilet. She did not even use the removable suction-on hand grips in the van shower. She was quite comfortable in the bed. Before we left we bought two new sleeping bags, although she only used hers as a doona because she finds it impossible to climb in and out of a sleeping bag.

I suspect that we are the only couple to use their Nintendo Wii Fit in a caravan! I removed the table to allow just sufficient space. I only hoped that the few people in the van park failed to notice the occasional rocking motion of the van, which lasted for bursts of up to ten minutes while we jogged or stepped. Otherwise they may have wondered at our stamina. She, being much more dedicated about exercising, has over 50 hours completed while I have only 45 hours in the 100 or so days since we began the Wii Fit exercising.

The dark mark under her toe nail has changed little, although I thought it was darker until I took another set of photos. The shots indicate that her toenail has grown no more than 1mm since May, so it is difficult to say whether the dark mark has moved forwards as we hope it will. We will take 3 sets of pictures taken in may, June & today along to her GP when she visits him on Wednesday. I am also concerned that she becomes breathless very easily when we walk any distance, she holding my arm.
